A Word About Detoxification

We're in the throws of "Detox Season". Before you run out to your health food store and stand bewildered in the midst of a kajillion products, ensure that your body will produce the results you seek. Here are some important tips to assist with the process:

• build the body up prior to detoxing.
• consume foods which digest easily -- liquids, soups, raw foods, etc.
• eliminate meats, eggs, dairy and other mucous-forming foods.
• consider using IV nutrition prior to detoxing (see a qualified medical practitioner for assistance).
• consume apples, as they have a detoxifying quality.
• drink plenty of pure water.
• consume only organic foods, as part of detoxifying is to relieve the burden of chemical toxicity in the liver.

For more information on detoxification, go to http://lagunanaturalhealth.com/detoxification.htm
See your local natural health care practitioner for assistance.

Are You Walking Your Yorkie Like a Great Dane?

Tips to Keep Your Breed Healthy

Every dog has its day, but daily exercise is the best way for all dogs to stay healthy and happy. When your dog greets you with its tail wagging, this doesn't necessarily mean your four-legged companion is simply happy to see you -- rather it really wants to go outside for a long walk! Dogs are hunters, walkers and travelers by nature, and your dog instinctively wants to be outside smelling nature and the environment, not just the backyard.

If your dog experiences a lack of exercise, it can lead to instability. Some common symptoms that your dog isn't getting enough walks are hypertension activities like excessive chewing, barking, howling and compulsive behavioral patterns. Remember, just letting your dog run around the backyard is not all the exercise they need!

There are certain steps to remember when walking your dog. First, be sure your pet is beside you or behind you, but never in front of you. Your dog should never walk you! If you play Follow the Leader and let your dog rule, allowing it to go first, this only signals to the dog that it's in charge.

Encourage your dog to walk beside you by reinforcing the positive walking experience with intervals of their favorite treats. Positive reinforcement creates a reward system for when your dog is walking properly. Try calmly speaking a special name/command when giving the treats instead of barking the usual commands, like "No" or "Heel."

Since 25 to 40 percent of dogs are overweight, it's important to consult your veterinarian on the healthiest food options to keep your pup energized and ready to walk. A healthy diet is just as important as exercise, but when it comes to dog nutrition, size does matter! Parents of pint-sized pooches will be happy to learn that veterinarian recommended Hills Science Diet has taken this into consideration, launching its Small & Toy Breed dog food that's specifically formulated to keep small dogs' immune systems strong and energy levels up, two steps toward a healthier and happier life!

When using a leash, make sure you give your dog just enough leeway, but not too much. The key to striking this balance is using a looser leash as a walking guide. If you pull on the leash too tight or often, your dog will counter-pull, creating a polarizing game of tug of war instead of an enjoyable walk through the park. When choosing a collar and leash, do your homework to find out which brand best suits your dog's needs. There are many shapes and sizes displayed throughout the pet market, so ask a trainer, as different breeds have varied temperaments and energy levels. A referred and perfect fitting leash and collar brand is the best way to go instead of winging it.

Dog walking is great exercise for people as well as pups, with benefits for your mind, body and soul. You get quality time with your pet, fresh air in your lungs and a happy glow from being a good pet parent. Take advantage of these dog walking perks and slip on a pair of Sketchers Shape Ups. With a unique design that recreates the sensation walking on soft sand, they help tone your muscles, burn calories and get a good workout alongside your furry friend.

Like people, all dog breeds are unique and some require more walks than others to maintain a healthy lifestyle. For instance, active breeds from the sporting, herding, hound and terrier groups, and any mutt mixtures of these breeds, require longer daily walks. Also take the age of your dog into consideration -- you certainly will find that a one-year-old puppy will be more active than an older 18-year-old dog. When in doubt, always research or consult your veterinarian before beginning a new walking routine with your dog. The following are examples of specific breeds' walking papers:

Bulldog
The Bulldog is a high level canine full of energy that needs frequent, moderate and regular walks, preferably in an open air environment. A good walking routine would be 15 minutes in the morning and 15 minutes in the afternoon. If your schedule doesn't permit two walks a day, then one 20-30 minute walk is optional. Take into consideration that Bulldogs have shorter nostrils and windpipes that can lead to breathing problems and heatstroke. Be careful not to overexert your Bulldog, as this can quickly lead to health problems.

Labrador Retriever
Labrador Retrievers have the spirit of a puppy, but the body of a full-grown canine until the age of three. They mature quickly physically, but not mentally! This breed is very excitable with tons of fun energy. Labs definitely require at least two 20-30 minute daily walks. A heavy duty leash, collar and possibly a harness is necessary as Labs have very strong upper bodies, especially the neck and shoulder area. Your rambunctious Lab will mellow with age, so enjoy the younger years as this memorable time passes by quickly.

Maltese
The Maltese is a slow starter when it comes to taking regular walks, and physically needs to build up to a walking schedule and routine. Dog guardians of the Maltese should wait until after your pup is older than eight months old to begin daily walks, preferably twice a day for 15-20 minutes. You must let those little white furry legs fully develop. If you're considering entering your purebred Maltese in dog shows, daily walks definitely improve their muscle tone and enhances your dog's chances of becoming the svelte winner.

Portuguese Water Dog
Your Portuguese Water Dog is one medium-sized excitable canine that thrives with daily exercise. Portuguese Water Dogs appear full-grown after a few months, but their actual muscle development doesn't catch up to their frame until around 18 months old. This breed requires walking less than a mile at a time and should be walked (your lifestyle schedule permitting) three or four times a day. Portuguese Water Dogs can be a bit unruly and love to playfully roughhouse, so a leash and training treats are a must have!

Mutts
Before you can figure out your mutt's best walking routine, you have to try and figure out the breed combination of your mutt! This can be a tricky endeavor and asking your vet or trainer to help decipher this canine code might help you avoid hours of frustrating research time. Let's say your mutt is a German Shepherd/Border Collie combo. You're in luck, as both require lots of daily exercise, at least two 20-30 minute walks. The catch here is that a German Shepherd is easier to discipline than the more curious and social Border Collie. Walking a mutt will certainly keep you on your toes.

Tips
1. Depending on your pet lifestyle, walking your dog two to three times daily might not be a realistic endeavor with a busy soccer mom or CEO schedule. It's up to you to ensure your pet gets the proper amount of walks daily. Enlist your significant other, friend, family member or dog walker to find a mutually agreeable dog walking schedule for your pampered pup.

2. Your dog's walking requirements will change as your canine friend ages. Older dogs need regular exercise to maintain body weight, cardiovascular strength and oxygen flow to the brain, lungs, liver, kidney and heart. Moderate exercise also helps delay the degeneration of joints that are affected with osteoarthritis.

3. Climate is an important factor to take into account when walking certain different breeds of dogs. Every dog has a unique constitution, and some breeds excel in warmer climates while others melt. For example, those cute Pugs with the funny mugs flourish in cooler temperatures, but will easily tire when taking long walks in hot and humid environments.

4. When walking your dog, be prepared. Your dog will inevitably want to get territorial, so a pooper scooper, plastic bag or newspaper is a must-have with you at all times to clean up after your dog. Besides, you don't want one of those stinking fines for not picking up after your dog!

Court of Claims Awards Millions in Vaccine - Autism Case

The US Court of Federal Claims has awarded millions of dollars in compensation to the family of an Athens, Georgia, girl who, as a toddler, fell ill with an autism-like condition after she was vaccinated against nine diseases on the same day, according to CBS News and the Atlanta Journal-Constitution (AJC).

The government settled her parents' claim in 2007, but it took more than 2 years for the sides to agree on the compensation. The family is receiving $1.5 million immediately to cover care in the first year after the settlement, lost future earnings, and pain and suffering. In addition, the family will get $140,000 to cover past expenses and an annuity contract worth at least $500,000 a year to care for and educate the girl,

Hannah Poling, throughout her life, the AJC reported. Federal officials concluded in 2008 that the vaccines Poling received did not directly cause her autism symptoms, but rather aggravated a rare mitochondrial disorder, which in turn led to her condition, according to the news reports. "It's critical to remember that the federal government has never compensated, nor has it ever been ordered to compensate, any case based on a determination that autism was actually caused by vaccines," Martin Kramer, a spokesman for the US Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), told the AJC. HRSA administers the National Vaccine Injury Compensation Program.

The AJC noted that more than 5,000 families have filed complaints of vaccine-related autism with the program since 1999, and of about 700 claims adjudicated so far, all but the Poling claim have been turned down. Numerous studies have failed to find a link between vaccines and autism.

It's Fall Cleansing Time!

We hear a lot about detoxing, but what does it really mean? Why do we need to detox? And what's the safest, most sensible way to approach your own body detoxification?

Toxicity is the ability of a chemical or physical agent to induce detrimental temporary or permanent tissue change or to detrimentally interfere with normal biochemical processing. A good detoxification program can not only help you feel better overall, but can also help clear stubborn symptoms attributed to other illnesses.

Some pathways toxins find their way into the body are:
• Topical (applied to the skin)
• Ingested (taken orally)
• Inhaled (breathed in)
• Injected (IV or IM)

A toxic condition can contribute to or aggravate many other ailments such as allergies, various cancers, lung disease, autoimmune disorders, fibromyalgia, migraine headaches, skin conditions and emotional shifts.

Toxicity levels can be affected by
• The time of exposure---a brief encounter or long term
• The number of exposures ---a single dose or multiple doses over time
• The physical form of the toxin---solid, liquid, gas
• The genetic makeup of an individual
• An individual's overall health
• And many others

There are many ways to detoxify. The first step is to contact a natural health care professional who is trained to build your body up before detoxification. Learn more at http://lagunanaturalhealth.com/detoxification.htm

An ionic foot bath is a very safe and natural way to help detoxify the body. Watch the video clip to learn more about the benefits of an ionic foot bath:

NOTE: Ionic foot baths are contraindicated for patients with pacemakers and other electronic devices.

Ionic foot baths are excellent for health maintenance, but will not not clear mucoid plaque from the intestinal walls. Your good health starts in the colon...keep it clean!

There are many herbal cleansing products available on the market. LNH suggests Blessed Herbs Internal Cleansing Kit, as it is an organic/wildcrafted product which gives excellent results. The user can also determine the strength of the cleanse. A free colon cleansing kit ($90 value) and detailed instructions are included with the 21 day cleansing kit. We've been using and recommending these products for 9 years with great success. Learn more at http://www.blessedherbs.com/bh/

This year, the fall equinox is September 23rd. Juvenile Myositis (JM) Could be Caused by Vaccines

Juvenile Myositis (JM), including Juvenile Dermatomyositis (JDM), Amyopathic Dermatomyositis (AMD) and Juvenile Polymyositis (JPM), is an autoimmune disease affecting approximately 5,000 children in the United States. Weak muscles and skin rash are the primary symptoms of JDM, while muscle weakness without a rash is the primary symptom of JPM. Children afflicted with AMD, on the other hand, experience the skin rash without the weakened muscles. Even within these three designations, JM affects every child differently. Some children experience a mild form of the disease, while others follow a more severe and potentially more debilitating course. Some of the more onerous secondary symptoms are calcinosis, vasculitic ulcers andcontractures.

Genesis of the Disease
The immune system is a group of cells that normally protects the body from infection. In autoimmune diseases like JM, however, once these cells turn on their infection-fighting process, they cannot turn it off. This process therefore damages the body instead of protecting it.

One way the immune system cells fight infection is through inflammation. But when the cells cannot turn off the inflammation process, tissues are damaged. In JM sufferers, the skin rash and weak muscles are caused by vasculitis, an inflammation in the blood vessels that lie under the skin and in the muscles. Since blood vessels run throughout the human body, JM can also affect other systems such as the digestive tract.

What causes JM?
Many researchers believe that there is a genetic predisposition to autoimmune diseases. As such, they feel that a child afflicted with JM is likely to have a blood relative who suffers from another autoimmune disease such as diabetes or arthritis.

The autoimmune disease initially presents itself when an invasive "trigger" causes the body's immune system to overreact. It is believed that this trigger could be a virus, a vaccine or an environmental hazard.

What are the symptoms of JM?
The primary symptoms of JM are weak or painful muscles, skin rash (with JDM), fatigue and fever. Some children experience joint pain as well.

Here's a news story about a boy's struggle with JM: http://www.nctimes.com/news/local/columnists/morrow/article_7c427faa-93ed-5567-a432-84539f3fc6ca.html

Click http://www.curejm.com/info/jm.htm for more information and specifics on symptoms and other information regarding JM, and what you can do to help.

This disease affects children under the age of 18. With the increase in childhood vaccines over the years, it's not surprising that so many new childhood diseases are cropping up --- researchers say JM could be one more of them.

Nothing was mentioned, but I wonder if these kids have mercury amalgams in their mouths? If researchers suspect vaccines, they need to consider mercury amalgams as a possible cause. Even "thimerosal-free" vaccines contain one mcg or less of mercury, and we all are aware of the health risks and environmental hazards it presents. Could JM be one more?

Enjoy a Himalayan Salt Bath!

All Salts Are Not Created Equal

There are many differences between common table salt and natural salt. Table salt is actually 7.5 and sodium chloride and 2.5% chemicals such as moisture absorbents, and iodine. Our ocean water source is heavy metal-contaminated and requires refining. It's dried in excess of 1200 degrees Fahrenheit, which alters the natural chemical structure of the salt. This process leaves the body void of benefits, as does GMO foods.

Many physicians and media sources warn us against using salt, but this warning is regarding high sodium levels in processed foods. Consuming table salt also causes excess fluid in your body tissue, which can contribute to cellulite, gout, rheumatism, arthritis, and kidney and gall stones.

LNH suggests Himalayan salt, as it is the purest available, uncontaminated by pollutants, and is perfectly structured energetically. It is mined by hand and hand washed. It's a fact that salt is essential to life -- using the best salt is a choice for optimum health.

Himalayan salt contains all 84 elements found in your body. Benefits include:

• Regulating the water content throughout your body.

• Promoting a healthy pH balance in your cells, particularly your brain cells.

• Promoting blood sugar health and helping to reduce the signs of aging.

• Assisting in the generation of hydroelectric energy in cells in your body.

• Absorption of food particles through your intestinal tract.

• Supporting respiratory health.

• Promoting sinus health.

• Prevention of muscle cramps.

• Promoting bone strength.

• Regulating your sleep -- it naturally promotes sleep.

• Supporting your libido.

• Promoting vascular health.

• In conjunction with water it is actually essential for the regulation of your blood pressure.

Himalayan salt can be used in cooking, medicinally and as a detoxifying bath. It's great for the skin and quite detoxifying, and can be done once, twice a week, or every day, depending on your health. Consult your naturopath for assistance.

It is suggested to use 2 cups to 2 pounds of salt in your bath (depending on the size of your tub) in filtered water. Water filters are available for showers and tubs at your local health food store or online. If you'd like, light some candles and play your favorite music to relax and soak for up to 30 minutes, depending on your health and needs. Leave the phone in the other room and just be at peace with yourself.

Tip: Lie back and immerse your head in the water up past your ears, and listen to yourself breathe -- there's something very calming about focused rhythmic breathing.

Enjoy!

THIS JUST IN! What You May Not Know About ObamaCare

Jonathan Emord, author and attorney who has won many cases in the name of Health Freedom, discussed what ObamaCare means to the public in the long term on the Robert Scott Bell show this morning. Under this bill as it is currently written, the government could force you to pay $3,000 - $15,000 per year for allopathic (western) care --- even if you don't use allopathic care!

Are you paying $15K a year now? As broken as the system is, how will it help if the "fix" is to break you? (or what's left of you).

If that isn't enough, if ObamaScare goes into effect as it is written now, it will pave the way for government to require even more from you in the future. Mr Emord said, "...the government can force you to pursue a government agenda with your after tax dollars." It's all about more control. For example, let's say ObamaScare was in effect and the government wants you to drive a smart car now -- they can force you to buy an electric car in two years with your after tax dollars. Kiss that refund goodbye. Oh, wait....you don't get a refund? Yeah, me neither.

I don't want to even venture a guess the magnitude of the negative impact and ripple effect it will have -- especially burdening the largest demographic -- baby boomers -- so I'm going to hold out for a better, reasonable, fair plan which will accommodate ALL people, not just Big Pharma and Big Insurance, as well as a plan that offers coverage and choices of health care providers in all healing modalities. There's room for everyone.

Is their 'fix' the reduction of choices to support pharmaceutical companies, Monsanto for chemicals and compromised GMO foods, and insurance concerns? It feels like a group is running a global experiment on us, and reducing all our freedoms in the process to simplify their control.

Please, Mr President....write a health care plan which will accommodate everyone, will include all healing modalities, and won't break what's left of the 'haves'.

Pharmaceuticals, Fertilizers, Pesticides and Antimicrobial Products Blamed for Transgender Fish

Male Fish Now Exhibiting Female Traits Due to

Toxic Chemicals and Pharma Runoff

More than 80 percent of male bass in the Potomac River on the U.S. Atlantic coast are producing eggs or showing other female traits, the nonprofit Potomac Conservancy has warned, in a call for more research into the causes of intersex fish.

In a recent U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) report, intersex fish were found in a third of all 111 sites tested across the United States, including in major waterways such as the Mississippi River and the Rio Grande. The phenomenon occurred in 16 different species, but was most common in male smallmouth and largemouth bass.

Researchers agree that the phenomenon is almost certainly caused by the presence of
pollutants in the water, including endocrine- (hormone) disrupting chemicals and the residue of pharmaceutical products.

"We have not been able to identify one particular chemical or one particular source," said USGS biologist Vicki Blazer. "We are still trying to get a handle on what chemicals are important."

Among the chemicals likely to be contributing to the problem, Blazer cited birth control pills and other hormone-containing
drugs, antibacterial products including tissues, personal care products (especially those containing fragrances), flame retardants, pesticides and fertilizers.

Walk With Me

Walk with me in darkness
Walk with me in sun
Take my hand
And walk with me
A new day has begun

Whisper all your sorrows
Tell me of your fears
Lay them on
My shoulders
I shall wipe your tears

I may not have the answers
Life’s rhyme a riddle be
But I will be there for you
Come and walk with me
