Acid Reflux Drugs Tied to Bone Fractures

REPOST

By /New York Times

The analysis did not find a similar increase in fracture risk among patients taking older acid reflux medications, called histamine-2 receptor antagonists.A new analysis adds to growing evidence that people using proton pump inhibitors to control symptoms of
acid reflux are more likely tofracture bones than those who do not.

Last year, the Food and Drug Administration revised the label on proton pump inhibitors, or P.P.I.’s, to warn that they may raise the risk of fractures. In March, it removed the warnings from nonprescription P.P.I.’s, saying those were meant only for short courses of treatment while the fracture risk had been observed in long-term users.

The new analysis, published in the May-June issue of Annals of Family Medicine, examined 11 studies and found that patients taking P.P.I.’s were 29 percent more likely to get fractures.

The researchers also found that long-term users were 30 percent more likely to get fractures, and those taking high doses were 53 percent more likely to get hip fractures in particular.

Dr. Seung-Kwon Myung, a staff physician and senior scientist at the National Cancer Center in Seoul, South Korea, and one of the paper’s authors, said P.P.I. treatment may affect the intestine’s ability to absorb calcium. “Long-term or frequent use of P.P.I.’s should be avoided,” he said

Does This Supreme Court Ruling Pave the Way for Big Pharma's Unaccountability?

The Supreme Court ruled Tuesday that a federal law bars lawsuits against drug makers over serious side effects from childhood vaccines.

By a 6-2 vote, the court ruled against Robalee and Russell Bruesewitz of Pittsburgh, who sued the drug maker Wyeth, in Pennsylvania state court for the health problems they claim their daughter, Hannah, now 19, suffered from a vaccine she received in infancy. The vaccine was made by Wyeth, now owned by Pfizer, Inc. The Bruesewitz's filed their lawsuit after the vaccine court rejected their claims for compensation.

According to the lawsuit, Hannah was a healthy infant until she received the diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis vaccine in April 1992. Within hours of getting the DPT shot, the third in a series of five, she suffered a series of debilitating seizures. The suit says Hannah continues to suffer from residual seizure disorder.

The vaccine court has paid out more than $1.9 billion to more than 2,500 people who claimed a connection between a vaccine and serious health problems.

The drug companies worried that they would face a flood of lawsuits over the side effects of vaccines in the event of an unfavorable Supreme Court decision. They were especially concerned about claims from families of autistic children who say the vaccines, or mercury-based thimerosal, are linked to autism.

David Frederick, who represented the Bruesewitz family at the Supreme Court, said, "I'm disappointed for the families of victims of defectively designed vaccines, who now have no remedy at law for their injuries."

This makes me....well....I can't find the proper english to express my feelings about this subject. But I do have a word for the Supreme Court and Big Pharma:

ACCOUNTABILITY
n.
The state of being accountable; liability to be called on to render an account; the obligation to bear the consequences for failure to perform as expected; accountableness.

And I do have questions:
Did the US Supreme Court just give Big Pharma and other giants a hall pass for products that could cause potential harm to it's people?
• Is any decision-making group interested in the health and welfare of our people?

Commentary:
FDA has become very interested in putting the manufacturers of nutritional supplements and natural products under the microscope, clearing the shelves of natural products and putting natural product manufacturers out of business....but not until natural products became a multi-billion dollar industry.

This ruling also makes me very suspicious regarding the ADA and dental amalgam issues, as they must fear lawsuits over those who have been injured by mercury poisoning. In February, 1994 Sweden announced a total ban on the use of mercury fillings in young adults. Denmark, Germany and Austria followed suit. Dental schools in Switzerland and Japan no longer teach amalgam use as the primary source of dental care.

When will the US step up to behave as a first world country again?

The Death of Blind Faith: Most Astonishing Health Disaster of the 20th Century

Did you know......

Most drug side effects are mistaken for new disease symptoms, leading to further drugging and unnecessary medical procedures, increasing the risk of death even further.

The mortality rate for people between the ages of 45-64, who took their prescription drugs correctly, rose 90% in just five years.

As of 2001, Pfizer was the number one most profitable company of all the Fortune 500 companies. Their profit that year was 7.8 billion dollars, which is more than the profits of all Fortune 500 companies in the homebuilding, apparel, railroad and publishing industries combined. It's an industry that refuses to consider vitally important aspects of health, like
• how stress lowers the immune system
• how processed foods, alcohol, excessive calories and insufficient exercise are recipes for disease
• how exposure to the tens of thousands of toxins in our environment, and in our food supply, have direct links to the illnesses you suffer.

You are told to stay out of the sun, yet more than 50,000 people die from cancer each year, because they don't get enough sun exposure.

This short video is well worth your time. It's intent is to inform, educate and create awareness regarding the state of health and heath care in the US. Just click the link below to view.

The facts speak for themselves.

Pharmaceuticals, Fertilizers, Pesticides and Antimicrobial Products Blamed for Transgender Fish

Male Fish Now Exhibiting Female Traits Due to

Toxic Chemicals and Pharma Runoff

More than 80 percent of male bass in the Potomac River on the U.S. Atlantic coast are producing eggs or showing other female traits, the nonprofit Potomac Conservancy has warned, in a call for more research into the causes of intersex fish.

In a recent U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) report, intersex fish were found in a third of all 111 sites tested across the United States, including in major waterways such as the Mississippi River and the Rio Grande. The phenomenon occurred in 16 different species, but was most common in male smallmouth and largemouth bass.

Researchers agree that the phenomenon is almost certainly caused by the presence of
pollutants in the water, including endocrine- (hormone) disrupting chemicals and the residue of pharmaceutical products.

"We have not been able to identify one particular chemical or one particular source," said USGS biologist Vicki Blazer. "We are still trying to get a handle on what chemicals are important."

Among the chemicals likely to be contributing to the problem, Blazer cited birth control pills and other hormone-containing
drugs, antibacterial products including tissues, personal care products (especially those containing fragrances), flame retardants, pesticides and fertilizers.
