The 3 LIttle Words That Can Keep People Stuck

One of the most common questions we hear is, "how can I overcome being stuck?" The common theme with people who are stuck are the same 3 words they say...

"I know that."

These are the 3 most dangerous words that will keep us stuck. People have read self improvement books, gone to seminars, heard interviews, etc., and will say "Oh, I know that" or "I've read that a million times", or "I've seen that", etc.

As you are reading this you may even find yourself saying, "Yeah, I heard that already" or "I know that."

But do you, really?

The ego mind will claim that "it knows that" and will look to keep us stuck. It can keep us from achieving our dreams and turn us against our biggest goals by telling us that we already, "know that."

Here are some tips on how to overcome this:

1. If you find yourself saying, "I know that", question it and say, "Do I really know that?"  Your mind will say yes you know that, and look to stop you. Ask yourself again, "Do I really know that?"

2. If you answer that you do know it then ask, "How am I using it in my life?"

3. If you are using it in your life, ask, "How can I better use this in my life?"

This is an excellent way to take control of your mind rather than the mind controlling you. Your mind will claim it knows it and the bottom line is:

If you are not using it you do not know it!

LNH Note:  Seeing and hearing something more than once also gives us an opportunity to live the experience through 'new' eyes or 'the eyes of a child'.  We could have a daily routine, yet enjoy a unique experience every day.  As we continue to grow, our opinions and feelings may shift, so what we thought we 'knew' at one time may change with each experience and evolve us to a higher consciousness.

Enjoy that commute to work today with 'new' eyes and look for something you've never noticed before.  It could change how you live the rest of your day.

FDA Approves New Blood Thinner

Late Friday, the FDA announced that they were approving a new drug -- Effient, Eli Lilly's new blood thinner -- even though this drug comes with extremely dangerous and potentially deadly risks.

The drug is so dangerous that the FDA has technically approved it only for specific patients, people getting angioplasty. Here's the catch: In the study the approval was based on, patients taking Effient faced "a greater risk of significant, sometimes fatal bleeding" when compared to Plavix, a top-selling blood thinner. On top of that, patients who'd already had strokes faced a higher risk of suffering another stroke if they took Effient.

Are the risks worth it? Nope. Not at all. Because while Effient slightly reduced the risk of non-fatal heart attacks, the number of deaths was "similar" with both drugs. So Effient doesn't really work better, and it increases your risk of repeat stroke and fatal bleeding.
Bottom line: If you're heading for angioplasty, make sure the doctor doesn't use Effient.

LNH Note: It's challenging to keep up with pharmaceutical news when there are so many drugs introduced to the market with such frequency. We're not anti-pharm. Rather we encourage everyone to start a vibrant health plan for themselves and those they care about to aid in the reduction of or eliminate the need for synthetics in the body.  More information regarding vibrant living is archived in this blog.

The care you give yourself today is the health you'll create for your lifetime.

How To Stay Young

We're talking about your spirit here!

It's a cumulative affect -- how we think, live, feel and believe are testament to how gracefully we age.  That said:

1. Throw out nonessential numbers. This includes age, weight and height. Let the doctors worry about them. That is why you pay them.

2. Keep only cheerful friends. The grouches pull you down.

3. Keep learning. Learn more about the computer, crafts, gardening...whatever you choose. Never let the brain idle. "An idle mind is the devil's workshop"...and the devil's name is Alzheimer's.

4. Enjoy the simple things.

5. Laugh often, long and loud. Laugh until you gasp for breath. (This oxygenates your cells to restore and rejuvenate.)

6. The tears happen. Endure, grieve and move on. The only person who is with us our entire life, is ourselves. Be ALIVE while you are still alive.

7. Surround yourself with what you love -- family, pets, keepsakes, music, plants, hobbies, etc. Your home is your refuge and sanctuary.

8. Cherish your health: If it is good, preserve it. If it is unstable, improve it. If it is beyond what you can improve, ask for help.

9. Don't take guilt trips. Take a trip to the mall, to the next county, to a foreign country but NOT to where the guilt is.

10. At every opportunity, tell the people you love, that you love them.

You've heard it before and we'll say it again:

"Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away."

Enjoy a peaceful day.

Oppose ObamaCare!

Friends,
I just received notice from Steve Elliott, President of Grassfire.org Alliance, regarding President Obama's impending health care plan. Please take a moment to read Mr Elliott's letter, and feel free to click the link and sign the petition to oppose this poorly written ineffective and very costly plan, greatly limiting or even eliminating ANY choice we will have for our own choice of health care.

Not only is this is a violation of our current health freedoms, but it's bringing us one very big step closer to becoming a socialized nation.  What's going on here? That's NOT what the United States of America is about. Socialism is simply NOT this country's foundation of principles.

There's a lot of truth in jest when our Canadian friends are horrified to hear of our government stepping in on health care planning and say, "The US can't do that! Where will WE go for care?" Hey, they speak from experience.

From the Desk of:
Steve Elliott, President, Grassfire.org Alliance

"Obama wants to impose government-run health care in the next three weeks. See below."
     --Steve

Kristin,

I need your help right now.

President Obama launched a full-court press this week for Congress to pass his Government-run health care plan before the August recess.

That means Obama and the Democrats are planning to rush through their massive plan to put government in charge of your health care in just three weeks!

Today, Grassfire is launching a nationwide petition to stop ObamaCare.

If you oppose Obama's plan to create a massive health care bureaucracy that stifles your private
health care choices while imposing $1.5 in new taxes, please go here to sign:

http://www.grassfire.net/r.asp?u=20107&RID=17594748

+ + Government "Option" Is Socialized Health Care

The key component of Obama's plan is the creation of the so-called "Public Option" which is really a new government health care plan run by the federal bureaucrats. The government "option" is certain to cripple the private health care industry and leave Americans with fewer personal choices and more taxes.

And the cost?

Estimates range as high as $1.5 trillion in NEW TAXES... and that's from Congress' official budgeting office.

Right now, Democrats are scrambling for ways to hide the real costs and force businesses and the "rich" to pay.

But don't be fooled -- you and I will be forced to "foot the bill" and our struggling economy will be further saddled with yet another new and oppressive government tax!

Even worse than the cost is the fact that the government could soon be running our nation's health care system. Do the words Amtrak and U.S. Postal Service ring a bell?

We have only a few weeks to mount grassroots opposition to Obama's government-run health care, and frankly I'm depending on every member of our team to take a moment to sign our petition.
Go here to sign right now:

http://www.grassfire.net/r.asp?u=20107&RID=17594748

+ + Senate committee votes begin next week!

Next week I want to rush a minimum 100,000 petitions to the Senate Finance Committee before they vote to impose a massive government-run health care system on the American people.

Please sign today and then alert your friends.

Steve Elliott, President
Grassfire.org

P.S. Government-run health care is already a failure in Europe, and the Democrats' plan is a disaster wrapped in a massive tax increase. That's why they are rushing this bill through Congress -- in less than three weeks! Please take a stand today and alert your friends.

Vanilla Extract: It's Just Not Your Grandmother's Perfume

Vanilla Extract is about more than cooking and baking. From neutralizing odors, to bug repellant to first aid care, you can find uses for vanilla extract all around the house.  Time-honored vanilla extract is still worn as perfume.  It can be pricey -- so why buy when it's so easy to make in quantity?

You will need:

• 4-6 Bourbon vanilla beans

• 2 cups Brandy or 80 proof Vodka.

Now:

• Split the vanilla bean lengthwise, cut the bean into 1/2" pieces, place them in a clean glass jar and cover all the pieces with the liquid.

• Seal tightly and let stand a minimum of 2 months shaking the jar occasionally. Use as needed.

Makes about 2 cups.

Note: This may also be prepared with distilled water but you should let this mixture stand a minimum of 4 months.

For detailed information regarding the many uses of vanilla extract, go to:

http://stanford.wellsphere.com/healthy-cooking-article/uses-of-vanilla-extract/352191

Vanilla Extract makes a fun and 'green' gift.  Simply purchase unique or antique glass bottles and jars at local consignment and antique shops for a low cost, and pour in the mixture.  Make a little hang tag (from an old card you received) explaining it's many uses, poke a hole for a skinny ribbon, raffia, etc. (reused from a gift you received), and tie around the neck of the bottle.

Pharmaceutical Education: Who's Responsible? Who's Accountable?

Drug education is a deep and seemingly unexplored topic. No, we're not talking about Nancy Reagan's "Just Say No" program. We're talking about responsible pharmaceutical education.  We're not here to point a finger or cast blame, but we are realistic in reviewing how our society arrived in a place where we have been faced with many unnecessary and irresponsible pharmaceutical-related tragedies.

Many people know more about their TV's, iPods and computers than their prescriptions.

Let's face it, Americans are largely trusting people. We trust "Consumer Reports". We trust our teachers. We even trust our news sources.  So when it comes to our health, it's no surprise that many believe that if "the doctor prescribed it, it's gotta be safe and OK". But doctors only know what they are told, and are unable to determine the level of safety to maintain a high standard of practice unless full disclosure has been given by the patient. Omission of fact is not always intentional, as some patients forget to mention a new drug that was prescribed by a different doctor. On the other hand, some patients use fictitious names just to get their hands on more drugs. And some doctors are afraid to say "no" to patients, especially those who are high profile, because they will be fired. Sadly, they sometimes cave in rather than stand their ground and walk away.

Many high profile people live in a relatively cloistered world, meaning they rely largely on handlers for treatment and information. But so does everyone else. Think about it. Our contact person is the treating doctor. The information we receive is only as good as was given to the doctor by the pharmaceutical rep. Many times the doctor doesn't fully understand the drug, it's best and most appropriate use and it's side effects, as they only spend 5-15 minutes with their pharmaceutical rep. The rep leaves samples and some literature, pens, pads and refrigerator magnets and they're on their way to the next office. So if the doctor isn't educated properly, how can we expect their patients to be fully knowledgeable?  The PDR (Physicians Desk Reference) is not updated as frequently as drugs are approved, so where will they find the information they need?

Signing off on the clipboard page at the drug store that you've read the information isn't "education". And in many cases, runners are sent to pick the prescriptions up, so the patient never sees the page anyway. You don't have to be 'high profile' to fit this scenario -- this is the world we live in.

In any event, these scenarios just make everyone look bad --- doctors, medical health practitioners, pharmaceutical companies, drug stores and patients --- and sets everyone up for tragic and unnecessary failures.

President Obama claims he is looking for education and health care programs.  Well, HERE'S A GOLDEN OPPORTUNITY!

The multi-billion dollar pharmaceutical industry certainly has the resources to be held to a high standard of accountability for it's products.  They arrange for slick, catchy multi-million dollar ad campaigns to get us interested, but not educated --- and running an incomplete list of side effects on a sped-up voiceover during a television commercial is not considered "education".

We'd like to see them put their money to sensible and viable use FOR the safety of our people, and not just hook them in to 'ask the doctor about the flavor-of-the-moment-recently-released pill' that won't cure anything, but WILL produce side effects so that you'll ask for more drugs to ease the new set of side effects. There's your vicious cycle.

What they don't tell you:  Drugs are designed to treat symptoms, not cure disease.

People read tabloid stories and wonder how "those people" can take so many drugs and why the toxicology reports are long in high profile cases.  Truth is, "those people" are your relatives and neighbors -- this happens all day long to people who you may know, but the high profile and tragic cases get the big press coverage.  And even then, it's spun to make them all look like "drug addicts" in the most negative and irresponsible sense and no one is held accountable. The press may turn the tragedy into a witch hunt, when we really need to look to the source (pharmaceutical companies) for a viable solution.

The average 40 year old takes 8 different prescription drugs per day.

This is astonishing! But it's easy to see how that happens -- Maybe you know someone who was injured and was prescribed pain killers. Years after the injury has healed, they still take pain killers. You even may know someone who became ill and was prescribed drugs to treat the symptoms. Years later, those symptoms may have changed and there are 4 or 5 other symptoms added to the mix -- and more prescriptions were filled.  And then the body becomes more toxic and weakened. More drugs are prescribed.  You get the picture. It happens all day long in America.

There are efficacious drugs that help relieve symptoms so the body is better able to restore itself. That said, we are a country that has become over-prescribed and under-educated.

Bottom line:

Pharmaceutical Education needs to be addressed and implemented. Pharmaceutical companies need to be involved in the process.

What you can do for yourself:

We all have stress in our lives -- be it emotional, physical, mental, a combination -- stress factors are part of our world.  It's up to each of us to develop coping skills rather than running to the doctor for some 'magic bullet' that is designed to treat symptoms, but may add to the stress level and toxic burden on the system and not fix the problem.  Seriously.  Each of us needs to take responsibility for our own well being.  Learning and instilling good basic lifestyle choices is an excellent start.

Drugs are here to stay. The way we relate to them needs to change.  Feel free to address Dr Margaret Hamburg, Commissioner, FDA and President Obama to consider Pharmaceutical Education regarding this issue.

New Bill HR2749 Gives FDA Unheard-of Power over Small Farmers, Food and Supplement Producers

The Food Safety Enhancement Act of 2009 (FSEA) is a poorly written bill, now before the US House of Representatives. Known as the Waxman-Dingell bill, it really isn't much about food safety at all.  Previous food safety issues in the news were centered around large agri-corporations, but this bill places its harshest burdens on small food and supplement producers. New language is introduced along with criminal and civil penalties, including up to 10 years of jail time and fines up to $100,000 for individuals and $7.5 million for corporations, regardless of size.

The Food Safety Enhancement Act (FSEA):
• gives the US FDA unprecedented scope, authority and power over small farmers, food producers and supplement producers, including the power to use vague language to intimidate and threaten
• imposes unjustifiably harsh criminal and civil penalties, even for administrative violations
• places undue economic hardship on small and mid-sized farms and food facilities, organic and conventional, which could easily drive many of them out of business, and lead to monopoly of food by large corporations. (Monsanto, etc., and their GMO seeds.)

For more, go to:

PLEASE DO NOT SUPPORT THIS BILL!

If the FSEA passes, only big businesses and large corporate farms will matter. HR249 doesn't make any allowances for small to mid-sized farms or facilities, which could mean economic ruin, closure or dependence on large corporations or foreign food supply sources.  If you own a roadside stand on your property, you would have to follow federally established standards for growing your produce -- or your food will be considered adulterated.  You could not say anything about the scientific basis for organic produce being healthier than conventionally farmed produce.

You would be required to make your business records available to the FDA, who have the power to show up unannounced without a warrant to search your records, without any evidence that you have committed a violation of the law.  If you refuse inspection, you would be guilty of adulteration.

What is happening to the high quality standards our country became known for globally and the freedoms we continue to fight and stand for as a nation of courageous people?

If you're a farmer who sells direct to consumers, you would be forced to give the FDA customer information, meaning NO MORE CUSTOMER PRIVACY.  Should you refuse, you'd face up to 10 years imprisonment and the civil fines could be up to $100,000 if you're an individual or $7.5 million if you incorporated your family farm as a business.

Please take action immediately. Click here to be taken to our Action Alert and contact your Representative now:

Grassfed Bison: Tasty BBQ's and More!

Bison tastes similar to beef, though some say bison has a slightly sweeter or fuller flavor. Bison is not ‘gamey’ or wild tasting and the nutrient rich meat may dark red in color and is lower in fat and cholesterol than beef.

Naturally lean bison has little to no fat marbling. Conveniently, this means it takes less cooking time with less shrinkage in the meat. The reason for the faster cooking time is because fat acts as an insulator or barrier to the cooking process; more marbling (fat within the muscle) contributes to a longer cooking time while lack of marbling takes less cooking time. For best results, we recommend searing quickly, then cooking the meat slowly using low heat setting.

OVEN BROILING.

Move the broiler rack about a notch lower from where you normally broil beef steaks (keep about 3" from heat).

CROCKPOT or DUTCH OVEN (moist heat)

For crockpot or dutch oven; add water to come up halfway on roast. Add favorite seasonings, sliced onions and vegetables as desired. Cover and bake 8-10 hrs. or until tender.

OVEN ROAST (dry heat)

For oven, preheat to 275F & cook for about TWO HOURS PER LB. Meat will continue cooking once removed from oven; use meat thermometer to make sure it’s not over- cooked.

STEAKS & BURGERS

Sear on high, then low & slow. We budget about 3 minutes each side after searing, but because each stove and grill is different, use the "juices oozing" method as your guide.

- 1/2- to 1" thick for bbq or broiling

- homemade marinades may be used for economical cuts

MORE TIPS:

Use tongs or spatula to handle & turn. A fork will pierce the meat, causing precious juices to escape.

Sear quickly on high heat; finish slowly on low heat. Remember: meat continues to

cook when removed from the heat.

More Value:

- little shrinkage in cooking

- little grease or water left in the frying pan

- no flames on the grill or bar-b-q

Grassfed Bison can be found in Whole Foods and other natural foods markets.  If you don't have a source near you, go to:

http://www.lindnerbison.com/recipes.html

REMEMBER: The only thing that can be done wrong with grassfed bison (or any lean meat) is to overcook it! Should this happen, the meat may be dry, chewy or have a ‘flavor skew.’

The rule is SEAR ON HIGH, THEN LOW & SLOW! !

Some cooking tips adapted from The Great American Bison Cookbook, published by

the National Bison Association.

Recipe: Kathy’s mom’s Grassfed Bison Chili

This treasured family recipe uses Lindner Grassfed Bison, which is lower in fat and cholesterol while being higher in protein. Something some may not care about, but you will, knowing when they ask for seconds, they are eating one of the most delicious & nutritious red meats on the planet.

And it’s easy to prepare!

INGREDIENTS

2 t. chili powder

1/2 t. cumin

1 T. brown sugar, or to taste

1-2 Bay leaves

dash cayenne pepper

dash tobasco

Salt to taste

DIRECTIONS

2. Drain and rinse dark red kidney beans.

3. Dice onions, green peppers, mushrooms.

4. Combine in large crockpot or saucepan.

5. Add whole tomatoes and break apart with fork.

6. Add browned chunks of meat
