Acidophilus: Friendly Bacteria

Acidophilus describes a number of beneficial bacteria which help our digestion and are found naturally throughout the body.  These include L. acidophilus, L. casei, L. bulgaricus and others.
Possible Deficiency Signs:
• Yeast infections - Candida
• Mood swings
• Irritability
• Lethargy
• Colitis
• Rashes

Foods High in Acidophilus:
• Yogurt
• Buttermilk
• Rejuvalac (water from soaked wheat berries)
• Lactobacillus or acidophilus capsules

Uses of Acidophilus in the Body:
• Maintain a healthy intestinal flora, the friendly bacteria within the colon
• Aids the digestive tract and offsets constipation

Clinical Uses of Acidophilus:
• Reestablish a new healthy intestinal flora
• Yeast infections - Candida

The use of antibiotic (anti=against, biotic=life) drugs and oral contraceptives are destructive to the natural, friendly bacteria within the colon.  Overeating meat, sugar and starch products is also destructive to the balance of acidophilus.
